Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP): What You Need to Know
Important changes begin January 1, 2027
The rules for the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) are changing. Some HIP members ages 19–64 will need to meet new work and community engagement requirements to keep their health coverage.
Raphael Health Center is here to help you understand these changes and prepare.
What You Need to Know
Starting January 1, 2027, some HIP members will need to complete 80 hours each month of approved activities.
These activities may include:
- Working
- Volunteering
- Job training
- An apprenticeship
- School or education
- Other approved community engagement activities
You may be able to combine different activities to reach 80 hours each month.
Not everyone will have to meet these requirements. There are several exemptions.
Who May Need to Meet the Requirements?
You may need to meet the new requirements if you:
- Are 19 through 64 years old
- Are enrolled in HIP
- Are not pregnant
- Are not enrolled in or eligible for Medicare
- Do not qualify for another exemption
Use the FSSA HIP Work Requirements Pre-Screening Tool to learn if you meet the requirements.
There are several reasons a person may be exempt.
You May Be Exempt If You:
- Are pregnant or recently had a pregnancy
- Are a parent or caregiver of a young child
- Care for someone with a disability
- Have certain disabilities or health conditions
- Are medically frail
- Are a member of a federally recognized Tribe
- Are a veteran with a 100% disability rating
- Are in an approved drug or alcohol treatment program
- Are under age 26 and were formerly in foster care
- Meet certain SNAP or TANF work requirements
- Have certain other circumstances listed by FSSA
This is not a complete list. Other exemptions may apply.
